What it is Apothe-Cherry?

Purium's Apothe-Cherry is a tart cherry extract that condenses the nutritional potency of approximately 30 sour/tart cherries into 1 oz. of concentrate.

What’s In It?

Sour/tart cherry extract is the only ingredient.

Suggested Use:

For maintenance, add ½ oz. (1 tbsp) to water or juice. For maximum effect, add 1 oz (2 tbsp) of concentrate to 8-10 oz. of water or juice.

Why Do We Make It?

From sleep aid to healthy joint function, tart cherries contain phytonutrients and antioxidants that offer health-promoting benefits to issues many people face daily:

  •  Melatonin: Your body produces this hormone, which signals the circadian rhythm to prepare for sleep. Tart cherries can help balance circadian rhythm due to this safe melatonin boost of tart cherries.
  • Ellagic Acid: Research suggests that this antioxidant has the potential to inhibit the production of lipopolysaccharide in your body, which plays a role in acute inflammatory reactions.
  • Anthocyanin: This is a flavonoid found in berries that has been shown to improve lowdensity lipoprotein oxidation, thus supporting cardiovascular health.

Consumption of tart cherry juice has also been connected to:

  • Healthy uric acid metabolism
  • Joint health and recovery
  • Healthy response to inflammation

Deeply pigmented fruits have many antioxidants and cherry is one of the highest sources of this antioxidant power. While cherries are seasonal, its nutrients are needed all year-round. Apothe-Cherry gives you easy access to tart cherry, even when it is not in season.

Benefits:

  • Contains melatonin, which may help balance circadian rhythms for proper sleep
  • May support healthy joint function
  • Promotes healthy uric acid metabolism
  • Is a rich source of anti-oxidants
  • Can help prevent or even reverse premature aging

Interesting Facts:

  • Researchers at the Human Aging Institute found that when 5,000 ORAC units a day are consumed through food, the risk of disease and premature aging are substantially reduced. We've captured the health-promoting benefits of tart cherries in the most nutritionally potent fruit juice available- each delicious serving contains over 7000 ORAC units.
  • Tart cherries were once only used to make pies and, due to their tart taste, the bakers replaced some of the juice with sugar. Not until university empirical studies showing the benefits of consuming tart cherries began to surface did we realize that tart cherry eaters had far less gout and arthritis than those who didn`t eat any at all.
  • Has more ellagic acid than pomegranates
  • More anthocyanins than blueberries
  • Higher ORAC rating than acai
  • Better for gout than black cherry
  • Far more scientific validation than goji, mangosteen, or noni
  • Final word from Dave:

My grandmother always used black cherries to help control my grandfathers gout, I remember her counting out 100 cherries just as her grandmother had done for her father, today science shows us that sour / tart cherries contain 3 - 5 X more of the phytochemicals that grandma was seeking. Each ounce of our Apothe-Cherry is equal to the juice from 33 sour cherries and more than 100 black cherries; my grandma would be proud. - Dave Sandoval

Better Sleep

Tart cherries provide a great source of melatonin, which helps your body rest easy. While our body naturally produces this chemical, these dark red cherries contain large amounts that are readily absorbable. What does that mean? Well, a swig of its concentrate can help you sleep through the night without waking up. And let’s be honest - that's exactly what we’re craving after cleaning the house after all the hours lost preparing for parties. Considering how sleep and mood are connected, we need as much pillow-time as possible to be on our best behavior.

Antioxidants

These sour fruits are also loaded with antioxidants.

These nutrients help boost your immune system.
That’s something we’re definitely going to need with all the kiddos running around while we sneak an extra serving of scrumptious holiday foods. Some studies even say that the antioxidant-count is among the highest compared to other foods, even being superior to vitamin-E supplements (that’s super important for skin care).

Uric Acid & C-Reactive Protein

A UK study from Northumbria University found a correlation between extract-consumption, and decreased uric acid and C-reactive protein. Why is this important? The researchers explained that finding demonstrates the cherry’s strong healing power, especially in terms of gout (a form of arthritis associated with swelling and pain) and inflammation.

A second study, published in the same journal, found similar results. Instead of taking extract, the participants ate 45 to 90 whole frozen cherries (which equals around 8 oz of the juice). Still, researchers found increased antioxidants and decreased uric acid for 12 hours after consumption.

In a Medical Daily review of the studies, the study’s author Dr. E. Mitchell Seymour, extended his hope that continual consumption of the cherry could lead to longer-lasting benefits.
